The thetre was initially constructed circa the 5th century bc. Later, its stage was moved a little to the north, to its present location. The most important alteration on the construction of the monument took place on the 4th century bc. The main theatre (called Kollon) of the Eretrian thetre in contradiction to many other Greek theatres, is located on an artifiacially constructed hill. We can distinguish eleven terraces on it with their seats made from the local limestone, as well as eight staircases. The scene had a front view of Ionic style. It has two backstage areas and an archway which is connected to the orchestra trough a stair. The subway that starts from the scene, ends also in the centre of the scene.
The Authorities and the cultural organizations of the town make efforts for the re-operating of the theatre ( as it usually happens with a lot of ancient thetres in our countries ) by organizing cultural activities in the theatre with all the respect to the sacredness of the place and its significance of course.
