According to the excavation data, the temple of Dafneforos Apollo was established circa the 8th century b.c.It was ruined, most likely during Lilantios war, to be rebuilt during the mid 7th centuru bc.The harmonic coexistence of Ionoc and Doric archtectural details is unique in the construction of the temple.The decoration of the western pediment represents an Amazon fight, in particular the incident of the siege of the queen of the Amazons Antiope by Theseus. Today, these sculprures are hosted by the Archaeological Museum of the city. The temple suffered a distraction from the Persians in 490 bc, to be reconstructed later. It was ruined by the Romans in 198 bc.
